ESL Endorsement Program
This is a 4-week program for ESL Elementary or Secondary Education students in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Three USU courses will be offered and students will choose two of the following three classes depending on their specific needs:
- ESOL Instructional Strategies
ELED/SCED 4760/6760 (3 credits)
Taught by Dr. Lisa Pray - Diversity in Education
ELED/SCED 4710 (3 credits)
Taught by Dr. Martha Whitaker - Spanish for Teachers
ELED/SCED 5000 (3-6 credits; pass/fail course)
Taught by onsite faculty from the Universidad Internacional
As part of the instructional content, field experiences in local schools will be provided. ESOL Instructional Strategies and Diversity in Education can be used toward the students' English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement. The Spanish for Teachers class can be used as an elective.
USU Program Leaders
Dr. Lisa Pray is an Assistant Professor in the department of Elementary Education, who teaches ESL courses and has taught in Mexico previously.
Dr. Martha Whitaker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Elementary Education and teaches courses in diversity and educational foundations. Both professors have studied Spanish in Cuernavaca, are very familiar with the city, and designed this program to meet the needs of teachers who serve English language learners.
